Coupled with the odd shape of the proverbial bales of snow, which measured between two to three feet in diameter, the man mused that "they just made no sense." Read more. February 6, 2019 Coast Insider Audio Huge Cross Washes Ashore in Florida: A tourist visiting Fort Lauderdale over the weekend couldn't believe his eyes when he spotted a massive cross wash ashore onto the beach in front of him. Greg Gay told a local TV station that the experience was "really heavenly" and he marveled that "had we been 10 minutes before or 10 minutes later, we wouldn't have seen it." The giant wooden cross was covered in barnacles and appears to have been out at sea for quite some time. Learn more. CrossWashesAshore The College Myth: In the first half of Tuesday's show, Professor of Economics at George Mason University, Bryan Caplan, argued that much schooling and public support for college education is astonishingly wasteful, if not counterproductive. He cited the issue of "credential inflation" where people need a Bachelor's degree, or even a Masters or a Ph.D. for jobs that previously didn't require them. Most practical learning takes place on the job rather than in a classroom, he noted, and people could be getting an earlier start instead of spending years in college. So much of the payoff for college is being able to finish and get the degree, he cited, so it's particularly useless for those who aren't able to see the program through completion. MysteryBugs Protecting the Grid: In the first half of Wednesday's show, Dr. Peter Pry discussed the continuing threat of EMPs (electromagnetic pulse) and solar flares, which can harm or take out the electric grid. The North American Electrical Liability Corporation (NERC) is supposed to help protect the grid but it's really a powerful lobby group for the electric power industry, he cited. "They don't want to spend any money on protecting the grid against EMP, cyberthreats, or sabotage," he stated, "That's why...federal or state regulation is necessary to compel them to do the right thing to protect the American people." Pry is hopeful that President Trump will write a strong executive order on EMP, but if the lobbyists and 'Deep State' bureaucracy fend off such efforts, individual states are not powerless to make changes, he noted. Davies and his girlfriend stayed in the house in 2002, and after three months, his life was left in tatters-- he'd become an alcoholic, his relationship had broken apart, and he was so depressed that he eventually attempted suicide. Davies blamed this on the hostile entity in the house, which seemed to feed and thrive on negativity and misery. The couple became aware of the presence early on when they were awakened by crashing sounds one night. Thinking a burglar had broken in, instead, they discovered objects in the living room had been moved around in a poltergeist-fashion, such as a group of CDs forming a spiral pattern. February 8, 2019 Coast Insider Audio Politician Wonders if Earth is Really Round: A politician in Canada raised eyebrows this week after she seemingly expressed support for the Flat Earth theory. Nathalie Lemieux, who serves on the city council in Gatineau, Quebec, reportedly made the comments two weeks ago on her Facebook page in response to a news story about YouTube downplaying conspiracy theory videos, including those concerning the Flat Earth theory. It would appear that the website's decision raised the politician's ire as she posted a rather odd rebuttal to this development, asking "who decided that the Earth is round?" Learn more. FlatEarthDrawing Vaccines & Disease: Dr. Paul Thomas has practiced pediatrics for over 30 years in Portland, Oregon where there is currently a measles outbreak. In the first half of Thursday's show, he discussed the outbreak, the debate over childhood vaccines causing autism, as well as his work on overcoming addiction. The measles outbreak, which has mainly affected parts of Washington state, began in January. It is not currently considered a community risk, and Thomas feels it's been overhyped in the press. The death rate from contracting measles is just 1 in 10,000, he calculated, about the same as going under anesthesia. While not minimizing the seriousness of that consequence, he pointed out that people need to compare that risk to the measles vaccine (given as the MMR-- measles, mumps, and rubella). In a Danish study, one in 640 kids got seizures from the MMR, he cited, and in general side effects from the vaccine go under-reported. Get the full story here. Are You a Coast Insider? They have discovered that hunches and feelings could be signs from the universe about what is to come. Synchronicities, Rob explained, can be thought of as meaningful coincidences, while precognition is likely more common than people realize, though they may just get an advance flash of something a few seconds before it happens. Remote viewing and some types of clairvoyance enable a person to step outside of linear time, he added. Trish detailed cases involving alien abductees who experienced odd synchronicities post-encounter. Read the full recap here. Alien Intervention: Naturopathic physician and founder of the Institute of Applied Energetics, Rita Louise, researches ancient mysteries, ufology, health and healing, and the paranormal. In the latter half of Thursday's show, she addressed her latest work examining the ancient mythic record. Her intriguing conclusion is that humans were genetically engineered by a group of extraterrestrials (referred to as the Gods in the mythic narratives). In the oral traditions of indigenous people, some of their accounts, passed down for thousands of years, have been shown to be archaeologically accurate, she noted. There is evidence to suggest these ETs came from star systems such as Orion, the Pleiades, and Sirius, she cited, and the varying descriptions of the beings (Caucasian, half man/half reptile, giants/monsters) indicate that more than one group was interacting on the planet. Weekend Edition February 18, 2019 Coast Insider Audio Inside the World of Doppelgangers: Aaron Sagers is an expert in the field of paranormal-themed entertainment, and most recently published an article examining the myths behind Jordan Peele's upcoming horror movie Us. On Saturday's show, he joined Ian Punnett to dive into the research he did for the article which explores doppelgangers (a look-alike or double of a living person) in folklore and paranormal pop culture. Irish and Scandinavian folklore speak of a doppelganger as something presenting itself as another person for nefarious purposes, Sagers explained, adding it could also be a version of oneself. Doppelgangers portrayed in movies include Invasion of the Body Snatchers, where the newly created double eliminates the original, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which ponders the duality of good and evil and the fractured self. AllBlackPenguin Detecting Deception: In the first half of Wednesday's show, an expert in deception detection, instructor and author Peter Hyatt discussed the scientific process by which deception is detected and his analysis of statements made by recent newsmakers. In the recent Jesse Smollett "attack," his manager initially remarked that a noose was "placed" around Smollett's neck, which indicated he didn't believe the report, said Hyatt, as the word "placed" seems overly gentle for such an incident.
