How to Beat Procrastination
Think Positively
Usually if we're putting something off there's a fear behind it. Whether you're worried about failing or about consequences, the longer you put something off the worse it could get. Your thoughts and feelings are connect to that. Think of how things can go well, rather than poorly, because it won't drain your energy. Think about times you took on a similar project, like the one you need to accomplish and you were successful or things went well. Know you'll do. The good feelings will give you a boost of confidence to get started.
Talk With a Trusted Friend
A partner you can share accountability with will keep you motivated because you don't want to let the other person down. This person can encourage you along the way, even if you just talk about what you need to do. Your own support and cheerleader keeps you on track.
Reward Yourself... Generously
Give yourself small rewards along the way of what you need to accomplish. Take the time to acknowledge each small task accomplished that leads to the entire larger task. It doesn't always have to be decadent, it can be having a latte after one point, or going for a walk, or watching a half hour show before moving to the next point of the project.
Trigger Mini Momentum
If you need to say, do your taxes, start with saying, "I'll just organize these receipts." That's something that's easy to do. Put everything in one folder or shoe box, maybe paperclip like receipts together. Next do something as simple as, "I'll turn on my computer" it's easy. You've done it so many times before. These little simple tasks will lead you to be motivated to doing the next steps in the bigger project.
