Hint 1: Use All That You Buy When you buy fresh broccoli, don't throw away the stalks after eating the flowerettes. There are lots of nutrients in them and after all, you did pay good money for them. Chop the stalks in your food processor and then freeze for later use when making broccoli/cheese soup...OR a good sharp knife to slice the peeled stalks into thin circles to use in casseroles or in stir-fry recipes.
Hint 2: Freezing Food for Later To save money, buy a large amount of store brand cheese (shredded or block) and freeze it in individual small freezer bags in 2 or 4 cup amounts. Cheese and butter are two dairy products whose properties won't change as a result of freezing.
One of the most useful gadgets for your kitchen
'Go Green' Hint: Let the sun shine in. For a healthier home, just pull back the curtains. Ultraviolet light in sunlight is a natural disinfectant that slashes the number of bacteria lurking on surfaces by about half. Plus, a sunnier indoor space lowers stress!
To alleviate dust mite allergies, open your windows for a few minutes each day. Mites survive by adsorbing water from the air. Fresh fall air lowers humidity inside your home, which helps kill the critters. Plus, airing out your home lowers carbon dioxide levels, helping you fall asleep faster.

November 12, 2019 Hey Everyone! Eucalyptus is an incredibly useful tree; providing timber for building, cover and windbreaks in poor country, firewood, nectar for bees to produce honey, landscaping, pulp and even food; but probably one of the best known eucalyptus products is eucalyptus oil.
Eucalyptus oil is highly flammable and contains compounds that are natural disinfectants and pest deterrents. It can be used around your home to replace many environmentally harsh synthetic chemicals.

Walmart refuses to carry smart bulb prototype. It uses breakthrough technology that big brand companies are fighting against because it could push their inferior products off the market...[READ MORE]

* Half a teaspoon mixed with half quart of water makes a good bug repellent for plants.
* Mix a quarter of a teaspoon or 15 drops of eucalyptus oil with a teaspoon of vodka and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle to use as a room air freshener.
* Use the oil straight to remove paint, grease and ink from clothes.
'Go Green' Hint: Kill energy vampires Many idle electronics--TVs, DVD players, stereos, microwaves--use energy even when switched off to keep display clocks lit and remote controls working. These are called energy vampires. Plug these items into a power strip and you can easily turn everything off with a single button when you're not using them.

Nobody likes a drip! Solve a dripping faucet with a few easy steps:
1. Turn off water under the sink or at the source. 2. Open faucet to drain any remaining water. 3. Unscrew faucet handle. 4. Unscrew nut that holds faucet stem in place with an adjustable wrench. 5. Pull out faucet stem. 6. Remove screw at bottom which holds washer. 7. Remove washer and replace with same size new washer. 8. Repeat above steps in reverse order.

Not doubt about it this is the best unclogging device around...
When your toilet won't stop running Check the tank float by first removing the lid and simply lifting the float. If it stops the water, bend the rod connected to the float down slightly. Also check for a leak in the float. Unscrew it from the rod and shake. Replace if there is water inside.

'Go Green' Hint: Take Green Cleaning into Your Own Hands Doing it yourself is a great way to insure that you're going as green as possible, since you know exactly what went in to the products you're using. A few reliable favorites: Spray surfaces that need cleaning--sinks, tubs, and toilets, for example--with diluted vinegar or lemon juice, let it sit for 10 minutes or so and give it a scrub. Your mineral stains will all but disappear. Getting lime scale or mold on your showerhead? Soak it in white vinegar (hotter is better) for an hour before rinsing it clean. And to create a great tub scrub, mix baking soda, castile soap (soap made only from vegetable oils) and a few drops of your favorite essential oil--careful, a little bit goes a long way!

I embrace being 57... but I don't have to look like it!
Replace skin scrub with baking soda
Your daily scrub keeps your skin nice and soft, but you've run out! Grab some baking soda instead. The mildly abrasive texture gently, but just as thoroughly as a premade scrub, whisks away dead cells without irritating skin. Plus, it balances pH so skin isn't left too dry or oily. Just mix a couple Tbs. of baking soda with a little water and massage onto damp skin with circular motions.
Replace shampoo with an apple cider vinegar rinse
Quit banging the bottom of the shampoo like a bottle of catsup and reach for apple cider vinegar. The vinegar's high concentration of malic acid dissolves the product buildup that can weigh down strands and make hair color appear dull, cleansing tresses as well as, of not better than, your regular shampoo. Combine 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and 1/2 cup of water and pour over hair. Let stand for 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
Replace conditioner with aloe vera
All out of conditioner? The aloe vera gel you bought to calm a painful sunburn last summer can come in handy. That's because the plant's compounds deeply hydrate hair just as well as they soothe skin. What's more, aloe nourishes strands to help keep them strong so they're free of breakage and split ends. After shampooing, apply a small amount of aloe vera onto hair from middle shaft to ends. Let sit for two minutes and rinse.
Replace makeup remover with coconut oil
Rather than turning to harsh soap to clean your face when you have no makeup remover left, swap in coconut oil. It's antibacterial detergent-like properties make it excellent at removing dirt, oil and makeup from the face. Plus, the oil's fatty acids hydrate so skin doesn't feel tight and dry like some makeup removers tend to cause. Simply massage a little coconut oil onto dry skin and rinse.

'Go Green' Hint: When it comes to cosmetics, cleansers and scrubs it pays to be a Label Hound. Check the ingredients, especially for products used on large areas of your body.
Although conclusive evidence remains elusive, many consumer watch groups fear that chemicals such as parabens and phthalates may be toxic when absorbed in high doses. Another additive to watch out for: sodium lauryl sulfate, a common source of skin allergens. Though the FDA regards the doses in cosmetic products to be too low to cause harm, it can't hurt to limit your exposure to them.

Artificial trees and wreaths. It may not be exactly traditional, but for less than $100 you can buy an artificial tree that looks so realistic you have to touch it in order to tell the difference. The same for wreaths. Compare that to spending 60, 80, 100 dollars every year for live decorations and it will have paid for itself in one year. Spend time together making decorations. Experts and gurus will tell you that experiences and memories are a better value generic gifts that will probably soon be forgotten. Create some memories by making decorations with the family. With some simple craft supplies, you can combine the holiday decorating with quality time. Paint ornaments, string , or a any of a hundred different holiday arts and crafts you can find on the Internet. Figure out what you can really afford. Many of us don't have the means for a financial free-for-all with the justification that Christmas only comes once a year! Christmas might just come once but those credit card bills will keep on coming. Make sure you pay your bills first, put aside a little money for an unexpected emergency, and have a stocked pantry of food before you go and spend hundreds or thousands on presents. Let the kids know what to expect. I have seen kids literally sit in the middle of a pile of hundreds of dollars worth of Christmas presents and act disappointed. They should have known in advance that they will only get 2 or maybe 3 presents on their gift list. If they know what to expect, they will never been disappointed on Christmas morning, and YOU will reduce some of your stress over providing a merry Christmas. Ladies, you will love these gloves. Warm, stylish and affordable! 'Go Green' Hint: Clean your house before the holidays. Why buy new when you can re-use? You might find a treasure trove of holiday paraphernalia just by cleaning the house! If you are anything like me you save gift bags, boxes, paper, ribbons, bows, decorations and even wrapping paper (yes, I have been known to carefully remove particularly nice wrapping paper, especially from large presents, and reuse it on smaller ones). Now is the time to take an inventory of all that holiday paraphernalia BEFORE you start buying new stuff at the stores. You'll be amazed at what you have left over (and stuffed in a closet) from last year.

Hint 1: Dish Soap + Baking Soda The next time your elbow grease isn't enough to scrub off baked-on food, sprinkle baking soda on top of your dish detergent to pump up your cleaner and add more friction to your scrubbing situation. Try the New CBD Oil in New, Tasty Berry Flavor (Still 1/2 Price) Hint 2: Make a stove simmer My crafty and cleaning obsessed mother taught me this great hint that I'd like to share. Simmy water in a small saucepan and add orange, lemon, or lime slices with some herbs like mint or lavender. The heat permeates the sweet scent throughout the house. It is an easy trick that is handy before parties or just because it's Saturday and you are cleaning. Get creative with your scents as well...here are some other things you can add to simmering water: Cinnamon sticks Fresh ginger Pine sprigs Whole cloves Chai bags Vanilla or Almond extract 'Go Green' Hint: Quit buying bottled water! Bottled water is usually no better than your typical tap waterit just costs more, contains plastic toxins from the bottles and leaves a trail of waste everywhere. Get a faucet water filter and a reusable water bottle to save money and help the environment.

Today's Hints: Scrub your cast iron skillet with a potato
Don't want to ruin your precious cast iron skillet by cleaning it with soap? Break out a spud instead! Pour some coarse salt into the cast iron pan and use half a potato to rub it in until that mess has broken up and can be rinsed off.
Make your sink fixtures gleam with wax paper
The constant wear and tear we put on our sinks often means they look less than clean, even after they've been thoroughly wiped down. If you want to get your sink spotless; after cleaning your sink with an antibacterial cleanser, polish your taps and handles with some wax paper. The wax in the paper will also repel water, preventing future stains from taking hold.
Eliminate upholstery stains with shaving cream
There's no need to hire an expensive professional to get those stains out of your upholstery. Rub a little shaving cream (not gel) into the stain, let it sit for 30 minutes on more stubborn stains, and then blot to dry. However, this should be done on a small and inconspicuous area of your furniture first to make sure it doesn't affect the upholstery's color.
